17 England players released back to clubs

Seventeen players have been released back to their clubs to compete in domestic competitions this weekend.

Among them are fly-halves Danny Cipriani and Andy Goode, suggesting Toby Flood could be filling the number 10 jersey next week.

Does this tell us anything about Martin Johnson’s strategy?

Released: Steffon Armitage (London Irish), George Chuter (Leicester Tigers), Danny Cipriani (London Wasps), Tom Croft (Leicester Tigers), Ben Foden (Northampton Saints), Shane Geraghty (London Irish), Andy Goode (Brive), Dylan Hartley (Northampton Saints), Paul Hodgson (London Irish), Olly Morgan (Gloucester Rugby), Ugo Monye (Harlequins), Luke Narraway (Gloucester Rugby), Jamie Noon (Newcastle Falcons), Tim Payne (London Wasps), Simon Shaw (London Wasps), Mathew Tait (Sale Sharks), Julian White (Leicester Tigers)

  1. I’m pleased. Too much time in a high-intensity camp like England’s can’t be healthy. Glad that they’re being released back to their clubs to remember how to play without being shackled by whatever the hell is going on in the England camp these days.

Hopefully can’t read too much into the fly half thing. It’s a position you need to keep playing and the more game time the better so good that Goode and Cipriani are playing.

  2. Flood starting at 10? On the basis of his sub’s performance last weekend? Here’s something I thought I’d never say, but don’t do it Johnno, stick with Goode!

  3. My thoughts enitirely Rob. Flood was poor to say the least. On a lighter note, Cipriani was playing for Wasps against Leicester last week and had a cracking game, so fingers crossed…..
