Argentina name team to take on New Zealand

Argentina head coach Santiago Phelan has rung the changes ahead of the visit of the All Blacks, with six new faces from the team that went down in the last round to Australia.

53-cap Patricio Albacete returns in the second row, having been injured after just 15 minutes in the Pumas’ opening game of the championship. Bath hooker Eusebio Guiñazú returns to the starting line-up in place of Augustín Creevy in the only other change to the pack.

The centre partnership is once again completely rotated, with Marcelo Bosch and Santiago Fernandez back in for Felipe Contepomi, who drops to the bench, and Gonzalo Tiesi, who falls out of the squad altogether. The other changes are at scrum-half, where Martín Landajo starts ahead of Tomas Cubelli, and on the wing where head-bobbing Lucas Amorosino is in for Horacio Agulla.

  1. I just hope they have enough pride left after this game to claim their first championship win over Australia in the last weekend. It’s a pretty good looking team they’re fielding there and possibly enough to trouble the kiwis for the first half, but fitness often tells in these things

    1. The Pumas will be competitive. This squad does look good, aside from the hooker. As long as they avoid cards, Argentina will make the All Blacks work for the win.
