Armitage and White promoted to England squad

It was announced yesterday that Steffon Armitage would be replacing Lewis Moody following his injury last week, and that follows the return of Julian White from the international wilderness last week.

Were these the right selections for England?

There have been many calls for the selection of Armitage, particularly since the impressive showing by his brother Delon, but will he just be making up the numbers, or do you think he’ll be capped?

There weren’t quite so many calls for the return of White, but what other options did Johnson have? The 35-year-old probably isn’t the long term answer, but he has looked pretty ferocious for Leicester and we’ll assume he’s innocent of eye-gouging until proven guilty.

  1. i thought Julian White had retired. That’s pretty gutting for the other props who were in the running that England would rather have someone who isn’t interested in playing international rugby playing ahead of them.

  2. Does anyone know why Delon Armitage, Nick Kennedy and Mathew Tait have been released from the elite squad?

Were they making everyone else look bad?

  3. Not a scooby. They have apparently been released to get more gametime with their clubs. Tait definitely needs it and I think the other 2 have had injuries in recent weeks. I don’t think it affects them being in the frame for selection for the 6 Nations though.
