Austin Healey’s Christmas Q&A

bt sport
Aviva Premiership

What is your favourite Premiership Final?
Saracens v Leicester when Saracens held out with a massive team effort … Tigers threw everything at them and even though I wanted Tigers to score I was overwhelmed by the commitment the Sarries team showed to win their first title!

What is your favourite Premiership Final try?
Danny Hipkiss last minute try for Leicester Tigers against Saracens. The Tigers were one point behind four minutes from time and Hipkiss wriggled through a high tackle to score the winning try.

What is your most memorable Premiership moment? (could be a try, tackle, kick etc)
Scoring a left footed drop goal against London Irish to win a £1 bet off Leon Lloyd who said “yes you can do it but only in training!”

What is your most memorable Premiership performance? (by a team and individual)
JP Doyle reffing at Gloucester V Harlequins; one of the best games I’ve ever seen. I loved watching Christian Wade last season edge of the seat everytime he gets the ball.. great example to kids to learn how to run and move before you learn how to lift weights!

Which is the best team to have won the Premiership?
I have to say it but the Tigers team of 2001 was pretty good.

At the half way stage who are your favourites to win the Aviva Premiership?
I think the Saints will win the title this year if their first choice team is fit for the play offs.

What is your New Year’s resolution?
To get back to fitness in 2014.

Where will you be spending Christmas Day?
At home with the family and in the local pub for lunch.

What is your favourite holiday destination in the UK, and favourite in the world?
I don’t like holidays in the UK but a weekend away in London with the family at Christmas is nice. Sardinia Forte Village is my favourite place to go around the world.

What is your hidden passion away from sport?
Cycling – nothing better than being out in the countryside on the Giant.

What is your favourite beer/tipple/pub?
Guinness – great for taste but not so great for the wasteline.

Who is your sporting hero and why?
My Dad, we played all sports either in the garden, on the field or in the house, wherever we could he inspired my love of all sports….with lots of help from my mum.

  1. Austin, when is a plank a plank? And when is a plank a match-winner? Or in AH’s place a total plonk+r.
