  1. Given the squad SL had to pick from, the team is the correct one to go for. A solid team which will no doubt benefit from consistency in selection. Let’s hope the performance is stepped though. Can’t afford to fluff as many chances against the Australians, who will be much tougher opposition than Fiji.

Let’s hope we get to see the likes of Lawes, Corbisiero and Morgan back in an England shirt very soon.

  2. Pretty much what we all expected. I did think that potentially Youngs would come in for Care. I am a huge Care fan but I thought the continuity of the 8, 9, 10 axis being Leicester might appeal to SL.

I am hoping that Care and Flood click on Saturday, they both quality players so I can not see why not.

  3. Given where we are at with injuries and last weeks performances I’m happy with that. Hope we get Lawes and Corbs back for the Boks.

    1. Yeah definitely need to have Lawes back against SA. It’s going to be a hugely physical test and Lawes certainly doesn’t lack for Physicality.

  4. Not really surprised to see the same starting 15. Was thinking maybe Launchbury for Palmer, but Palmer has the experience of the big test arena. Should be a cracker!!

    1. Not sure to be honest, but they’ve been at Pennyhill Park with the rest of the squad so hopefully not too far away. Tom Croft hasn’t been there, by comparison.

      1. I don’t really think we’re missing Croft though. Johnson has stepped in and proved his worth in very game he’s played. And with Parling running the line-out, and Robshaw as an extra jumper, Croft is not too much of a loss.

        1. I agree that Johnson has done himself proud and has played very well. But I think that Croft adds something a little extra and when he is fit he will come back in.

    2. Lawes may get some LV game time this weekend, as he’s only had a short break this time hopefully this will be enough.

  5. Yawn at Barrett and Tuilagi together. Depresses me to watch Barrett just run into big lumps. Especially when manu is next to him doing it so much better. Its why we look so boring once the ball gets past Toby if neither Barrett or Tuilagi are crashing it up, poor brad looks headless when he’s in some space.

  6. I keep saying it, but I’m still very disappointed at the Care/Flood combination. It could be argued that Care is in better form as a scrum half, but his linking up with 8 and 10 in the England side is lacking and I think that would be the important difference and good reason to bring in Youngs with Care to cause mayhem at 60 minutes – as was so succesful under Martin Johnson. The Youngs/Flood/Ashton strikes were so devastating.

  7. A fairly standard selection. I’m not convinced Chris Ashton is necessarily a better pick over Monye, as he hasn’t been performing at his best for a little while now, and Monye could use some more experience. However, it’s a fair point that Ashton is proven reliable (ish) against top sides like the Wallabies, so I understand the decision.

I like Waldrom, but I like Morgan a lot more, he creates more opportunities in attack and is a decent tackler. However, Waldrom is certainly a good option. Agree with Dan that it’ll be nice to see him back alongside Lawes.

Predict England to win by less than a try’s worth.

    1. I would argue Ashton has started the Premiership season well? He has been scoring tries? And I also thought he was really good on tour to SA in the summer.

And in reference to xxxwookie’s point about the 8, 9, 10 axis I completely agree! I think I said this in an earlier post. It is not about picking the best players necessarily, but the best team. Care has been in excellent form, but I think Youngs would bring more out the team!

  8. Waldrom needs to repay SL’s faith in him, I certainly prefer Morgan (or even Haskell)and Billy Vunipola needs to be on the radar.
Tom Youngs had an easy ride in the lineout last week and the Australia should give us a better idea about how well he can cope against a top class lineout outfit.
I am glad that Care stays in ahead of Youngs because I want England to play more like Harlequins. I feel at the moment he is more likely to make a break and it is the responsibilty of the rest of the team to back him up. With Pocock out of the picture we have more of a chance to maintain a higher tempo.
I admit I’m biased but I think Australia has more to worry about us than we have to worry about them.

  9. England must be confident against this injury strewn Australian side – no excuses for a loss has to be a comfortable win

    1. Not sure about that. You can never write off the Aussies.

Everyone thought NZ would put a cricket score past them in the Bledisloe but instead they held them to a draw

      1. Just think with the English pack and the Aussie pack being non existent – no Pocock England must be huge fav

  10. @Jacob Jeffery: yes he’s done well in the Premiership, but he hasn’t scored in 9 Tests now. There are plenty of players who perform very well at club level but don’t step it up for international matches, and I have a sneaking suspicion that Ashton has become such a player. I could be wrong though, and we’ll see one way or another on Saturday

    1. I think Ashton will prove you wrong. He is world class. He also adds a lot more than just his try scoring abilities to the game. He is one of the first names on SLs team sheet and rightly so.
