Aviva Premiership Predictions: Round 19

I’ve found a rare but rich vein of form in my Aviva Premiership Predictions recently, so here’s hoping for another full house this weekend.

I’ve generally gone for home wins this weekend, apart from at The Stoop, where I am tentatively backing the Tigers to upset the home crowd. Quins were impressive against Gloucester, but it’s hard to go against Leicester at this stage of the season.

Leeds v Exeter is another tricky one, but I’m backing the home side to eke out a narrow victory and keep alive their hopes of survival. It’s backs-to-the-wall time at Carnegie, and this is a must-win fixture.

Elsewhere, I can see relatively comfortable wins for Gloucester, Northampton and Saracens, and a slightly narrower win for the Exiles against Wasps.

Here are my predictions for Round 19 – what do you think?

Gloucester Rugby v Newcastle Falcons: Gloucester Rugby by 13
Harlequins v Leicester Tigers: Leicester Tigers by 9
Northampton Saints v Sale Sharks: Northampton Saints by 17
Leeds Carnegie v Exeter Chiefs: Leeds Carnegie by 5
London Irish v London Wasps: London Irish by 8
Saracens v Bath: Saracens by 13

  1. I can’t really argue with any of your predictions cos if I tried I’d surely get 99% of them wrong, but I can see Leicester v ‘Quins and Leeds v Exeter being pretty close affairs due to the Tigers “interesting” selections and just how lackluster Leeds have looked lately.

  2. Yes, those are most likely to go the other way. Chiefs have a lot of support on SportGuru – over two-thirds of people expecting an away win, but I’m hoping Leeds win to keep the relegation race alive (Chiefs are already safe I reckon).

Season building nicely to a climax…! Have a good weekend everyone.

  3. Quins v Leicester is the hardest one to call this weekend, should be a great match up but like you say, it is so hard to bet against Leicester at this stage of the season. Despite Wasps shocking display at Franklin’s Gardens last week, I can see them pushing Irish all the way but can’t argue with any of your predictions there Hutch

  4. The Wasps team is about twice as good as the team that took on Saints last week. Finally they’ve called up Christian Wade! He’s straight in at 14, much better than a scrum half, albeit a very quick scrum half, playing there.

That’s the only match that I reckon could see an upset. Think Exeter should win, though I hope Leeds can retain some hope of staying up by beating them.
