Here are my Aviva Premiership Rugby predictions from Round 5, and the last before we break for a couple of weeks of European action.
There are a couple of tricky ones this weekend: not least tonight where Sale host Wasps, and I’m backing the home side for a narrow win. Charlie Hodgson returns to the fold, and the Sharks’ home form this year is as good as Wasps’ away form is bad. It could go either way, but fingers crossed for a good start to the weekend.
In the other fixtures, I’m expecting fairly comfortable home wins for Bath over Gloucester, Quins over the Falcons, Irish over Leeds and the Saints over Exeter, and I’ve also gone for a fairly sizeable Sarries win over Leicester.
The Tigers have serious injury problems and have had to move young centre Billy Twelvetrees to fly-half against a Saracens side that showed how important a Number 10 can be in controlling the game. A lot seems to rest on his young shoulders, and he could have a stormer, but I’m backing Sarries for a home win.
Here are my picks…let me know your thoughts.
Sale Sharks v London Wasps: Sale Sharks by 5
Bath v Gloucester Rugby: Bath by 13
Harlequins v Newcastle Falcons: Harlequins by 18
London Irish v Leeds Carnegie: London Irish by 23
Northampton Saints v Exeter Chiefs: Northampton Saints by 27
Saracens v Leicester Tigers: Saracens by 13
