Cipriani sent to the Saxons

The breaking news is that Danny Cipriani will train with England Saxons this week as they prepare for their match against Ireland A.

Andy Goode has been called up from Brive to the Elite Player Squad…an interesting decision but Cipriani should benefit from some game time before being thrown into full International rugby in the Six Nations.

My thoughts are that the Italy game should provide a comfortable enough opening for England, allowing them time to unite as a team before facing Wales the following week.

It’s now likely that Toby Flood will be starting at fly-half for both games.

Meanwhile, James Simpson-Daniel has finally been called up to the squad as cover for Ugo Monye.

Teams should be announced tomorrow…any thoughts in the meantime?

  1. Disapointed to be honest as though I agree Cips is in a bad run of form I’m one of these optomistic types that’s still clinging onto the hope that he will play himself into form. I’ve just not been impressed at all with Toby Flood since he’s moved to Leicester and I think he’s not going to inspire us going forward even playing his best game whereas at least a Cipriani finding a bit of form would. My only hope is Johnson takes a risk and picks Gerahty at 10 instead.

I really hope I am wrong and if they pick Flood then I hope he has a great game but I’m off to Twickers on Saturday and the thought of him leading the backline out doesn’t get me as excited as the “what could he be like” russian roulette factor of Cipriani.
