Gareth ‘Cooch’ Chilcott is expecting Scotland to beat England in this weekend’s hotly anticipated Calcutta Cup clash.
Nobody really knows what to expect from the ‘new’ England, but the ex-England international clearly thinks that the home side ought to be favourites.
“Scotland will be after revenge for their Rugby World Cup defeat at the hands of the English” says Cooch, but does any side need extra motivation when they play England? It seems to be the one that every side wants to win the most.
As for England, they are “out to regain respect” and a decent showing in defeat may be enough to do that. A trip to Murrayfield is no picnic at the best of times, but with an inexperienced side and a captain with a single cap to his name, England appear to be particularly vulnerable.
In the other Six Nations games, Cooch is expecting France to see off Italy. Both sides have a new coach and “the match will give a early indication of both sides’ ambitions this year.” How France play under Phillippe Saint-Andre will certainly be interesting to see, but not many people can see past a home win at the Stade de France.
And what about Ireland v Wales on Sunday? “What a game this will be, from two teams that did themselves proud in the recent Rugby World Cup.
