Currie Cup 2014 Predictions: Round 2

After an opening round that produced one major upset (Pumas beating Cheetahs), two fairly predictable results (Lions beating Bulls and Sharks beating Griquas) and one obvious win (Western Province beating Eastern Province Kings), what’s in store in Round 2? Check out our predictions below, and if you think you know better, why not join our free prediction league on SuperBru and prove it?

Game of the round: Western Province vs Blue Bulls

On paper, this looks like an easy one to call. Western Province won their opening fixture by 19 points away from home, while the Bulls were crushed by the Lions. Last season, there was a difference of 20 points between the sides, WP finishing top, the Bulls one from bottom.

That is reflected in the SuperBru community’s predictions for this one – a whopping 88% are backing the home side, with the average pick Western Province by 12.

And yet this is still a huge game, one of the most important in the Currie Cup calendar, all because of the fierce historical rivalry between these two sides. So despite the Bulls not winning the title since 2009, they will always manage to find an extra gear for this fixture – they drew here last year, in fact.

That extra passion means it might not be the rout some are expecting – but the home side should still be too good for the travelling Bulls on this occasion, especially given the results in Round 1. Western Province by 12.

Other SuperBru predictions:

Sharks vs Pumas: Sharks by 15
Cheetahs vs Griquas: Cheetahs by 4
Lions vs Eastern Province Kings: Lions by 25
