Currie Cup 2014 Predictions: Round 4

Two sides remain unbeaten in this season’s Currie Cup – will that remain the case after this weekend’s matches? Here are our predictions:

Game of the round: Pumas vs Sharks

The Pumas have been somewhat of a surprise package this Currie Cup – no-one really gave them a chance coming into the tournament, and yet they sit in fourth place with two wins and one try-scoring bonus point to their name. Not bad at all.

This is a repeat of the round two fixture, a game that the Sharks won comfortably (by 17). Crucially, though, that was in Durban – this game is in the Pumas’ home in Nelspruit, a venue at which they are yet to lose this season.

The Sharks have been effective so far, and that their victory over the Pumas already this season was so comfortable could make the difference here. They are unbeaten and will be brimming with confidence, while the Pumas, despite being unbeaten at home and having started the season with an unexpected bang, know what it feels like to be thumped by this opposition. Mentally, that makes a big difference. Sharks by 9.

Griquas vs Cheetahs: Griquas by 3
Blue Bulls vs Western Province: Western Province by 10
Eastern Province Kings vs Lions: Lions by 15
