David Attoub’s gouging appeal is rejected

Stade Francais player David Attoub has lost his appeal against his 70-week suspension by the ERC. He was found guilty of gouging Stephen Ferris in Stade’s match with Ulster, and his attempt to reduce the sanction has been thrown out.

After all the inconsistencies in bans for gouging, it’s good to see that the Disciplinary Hearing has not backed down after reviewing the case. It’s a pretty hefty ban, and this will hopefully set the benchmark for any future cases. In fact, hopefully this will be enough of a deterrent to prevent future cases.
