England beat Aussie Barbarians in tryless encounter

Although we didn’t see the game here at The Rugby Blog HQ, it doesn’t sound as though we missed a classic.

England were unable to score, and as the BBC reports, it was a ‘less than convincing’ performance once again. Charlie Hodgson and Olly Barkley between them kicked 5 goals to Berrick Barnes’ three, and it goes down as England’s first tour win.

Perhaps we should rejoice – England haven’t won a game on a summer tour for years! If anyone saw the game and can shed any light on the negatives and any positives, we’d be grateful…

  1. It wasnt great, i thought barkley and dan ward-smith looked pretty gd so did attwood. Armitage looks to have lost his desire to run as he seemed to kick back everything that came to him. Strettle was impressive working hard taking lots of inside balls. But again england dominated the scrum, but the backline seemed to lack depth and creativity.

  2. It sounds like a familiar story. Not sure what has happened to Armitage – you would think this is the ideal game for some counter-attack running, but he does seem much more conservative these days.

Hopefully Barkley did enough to get a look-in on Saturday…
