England call up Jamie Noon

Jamie Noon has been added to the England elite squad as a replacement for Dan Hipkiss, who sustained an ankle injury playing for the Tigers at the weekend.

Charlie Hodgson also trained with the squad today, because Jonny Wilkinson has some muscle tightness, but this was just a precaution and Wilkinson should be fit for the weekend.

The team to face Ireland this weekend will be announced at 12pm tomorrow, and we’ll have the news on The Rugby Blog as soon as it’s announced.

  1. For God’s sake, do we have any kind of centre selection strategy or is just throw a six to start. If Noon plays that may be the final straw for my faith in this management team.

  2. I really don’t think we’ll see Noon on Saturday. Hipkiss wouldn’t have been in the squad anyway, so Noon has probably just flown over for the day and will be discarded again.

  3. My thoughts exactly Kemlo. Literally so cheesed off about this its becoming laughable, well Johnson is. Nah Johnno leave out Hape Waldouck and Clarke put in a 30-year-old who will be out the squad as quickly as he came in. I respect Johnno so much as the player but he is so narrow-minded, almost delusional, as a coach. If he proves me and everyone else wrong then fair play but how long does he need because I cant ever see him changing his short-sighted philosophy. Maybe Rob Andrew could answer that one?
