Well, I wouldn’t wish misfortune on anyone, but these are two of the players I’ve been most excited about seeing in an England shirt and I suppose this means one or both may get a chance after all.
Lawes hasn’t trained this week as he has a minor hamstring injury. It sounds like he’ll play but there’s a small chance Itoje will feature.
Good to have them both in and around the squad though whatever happens.
Gutted not to see Eliot daly or Maro itoje playing. But I suppose, you have to integrate the uncapped players slowly and tactfully. Not a bad line up let’s just ED can get can get more out of them than SL.
I remain bewildered by the inclusion of Alex Goode. He is fantastic for Sarries, but has proven time and time again that he just doesn’t cut it at international level. Surely with the wealth of options on the wing (in the broader EPS), it is time to try Watson at full back?
From my analysis it appears the Eddie Jones plays a very similar game style was Joe Schmidt does. The only difference was Japan were not suited to the kick chase so they had to stick with Schmidt’s one pass off 9 tactic.
How on Earth do you get that impression from that line-up? The last thing that backline looks set up to do is hoof it up in the air!
Is a downmarket tabloid journalist for an unpleasant right-wing newspaper writing…….???
‘Wizard of Oz. How Eddie Jones rebuilt English rugby after the utter shambles that RWC 2015 proved to be’
I’ve heard that it is to be published on Friday morning, barely 24 hours before 6n for 2016.
I enjoyed ‘House of Lancaster’ so much I was hoping for a sequel.
Prophet Enoch.Calm down.Bed time.
Can’t help thinking that we have a problem at 12 and 7. Well it is groundhog day I suppose!
Haskell/Clifford and Devoto/Farrell I don’t really see any of them as the solution
I’d imagine Farrell/Devoto are pace holders until Slade / Tuilagi are fit – there aren’t many other options!
I have my fingers crossed that Devoto will come on and demonstrate that he can step up to this level. At 6’4 and 16 stone, he has the physical attributes, he is also undoubtedly talented – its just a question of whether he is good enough.
Anyone know when the actual team will be announced?
Would imagine it will look something like this
Vunipola
Hartley
Cole
Kruis
Launchbury
Robshaw
Haskell
Vunipola
Youngs
Ford
Nowell
Farrell
Joseph
Watson
Brown
It’ll be Care over Youngs I believe.
Hearing that Care will be starting. I’m a Care fan, but Youngs has been playing well and arguably his departure coincided with the wheels coming off v Wales in RWC.
I’ve read the same thing now. Care must have shown up well in training.
So long as he doesn’t do anything silly I am fine with him starting – he is such a threat to opposition defences close to the ruck and scrum. I just hope he gets to play his natural heads-up game and isn’t forced into a tactical strait-jacket as so often seems to happen with scrum halves in the England set up
Hopefull, it will also encourage Youngs to play his socks off when he gets on the pitch
Have also heard that Marler will be starting over MV – which again must be a training decision based around scrum performance – as EJ said that he would focusing on the set-piece
Another decision that I am fine with so long as MV gets a good 30/40 mins to run at the Scottish defence
What Eddie has changed big time is the culture/ values.Basically the players are now happy and relaxed and being treated as adults.Motivation from within is now strong.I believe we will see a very confident England side that believes in itself.Win the first 2 away and the GS is ‘on’!
Such optimistic assumptions to make from nothing but a few interviews.
Your assumption that my remarks are based purely on media comment is not accurate.I have rather more evidence than that
So if Lawes doesn’t shake off his hamstring problem, Super Maro is on the bench. If Lawes hasn’t trained all week, surely this would be the sensible option anyway!?
I’m in the same camp as those who believe the travelling reserves deserve to be in the squad. But if we do manage to produce a “fix-the-foundations” performance where the absent basics have been resolved them I can be patient for another round or 2.
England will lose the only part of the team where we are better than the Scots is JJ and the back 3 .Wont add up to a hill of beans if we don’t give them the ball. If Farrell is the best 12 available in England god help us
