  1. Thought Flood might have made the bench. Disappointed to see Sharples miss out on the 22 again, but then Strettle and Brown played well last week.

  2. Sharples has probably been released at the expense of Joe Simpson. England clearly still aren’t 100% sure about Lee Dickson’s hand, so are taking Simpson as a precaution as the reserve. Pity.

  3. Really feel for Sharples. Seriously thought Lancaster might have given him a shot this weekend. Guessing team will be nearly same as last weekend. Predictions?

    1. Corbisiero
    2. Hartley
    3. Cole
    4. Botha
    5. Palmer (though would start Parling)
    6. Croft (though would start Dowson)
    7. Robshaw
    8. Morgan
    9. Youngs (though would start Dickson)
    10. Hodgson
    11. Strettle
    12. Farrell
    13. Barritt
    14. Ashton
    15. Foden

    16. Webber
    17. Stevens (though would have Marler)
    18. Parling
    19. Dowson
    20. Dickson
    21. JTH
    22. Brown

  4. Marler had better get on the bench and not just travel with the side. I’m really happy for Quins players to play for England, but it’ll be a bit annoying if he just travels with the squad all the time without getting any gametime. Still good experience for him in a sense I guess.

  5. I really hope that either Dickson or Simpson will be starting, because Youngs was rubbish last week. He slowed down England’s ball at the breakdown, reducing our attacking options, and his kicking was poor. My matchday 22:

    1. Corbisiero
    2. Hartley
    3. Cole
    4. Botha
    5. Palmer
    6. Dowson
    7. Robshaw
    8. Morgan
    9. Dickson (if 100%. If not Simpson)
    10. Hodgson
    11. Strettle
    12. Farrell
    13. Barritt
    14. Ashton
    15. Foden

    16. Webber
    17. Stevens
    18. Parling
    19. Croft
    20. Youngs
    21. JTH
    22. Brown

Very similar to Tommy’s prediction, but I feel Dowson will be more comfortable at 6, and Morgan deserves a start. Croft drops to the bench as he offered nothing going forward last week, but Dowson is a very good ball carrier. Parling didn’t really get enough time to impress, and I think Palmer brings experience we need in the pack.

  6. Youngs’ delivery was slow, but our ball retention and speed at clearing out did’nt exactly give him a solid platform to work off. People hang players out to dry too easily without looking at the bigger picture. Same thing happened to Dan Parks despite his tremendous service to the Scots.

  7. Young’s form hasn’t been great but to blame him for the slowing down of the ball shows a distinct lack of understanding of the breakdown. I do feel Dickson’s tenacity should give him the edge this week, his work rate is higher than Young’s and he’s a constant pest to opposition, he reminds me of Matt Dawson in that respect. I think Croft offering nothing going forward shows that the whole team lacked anything going forward. I can’t remember the stats exactly, but I’m sure the back row made less than 30m in carries combined, but the centres carried less than 10. A straight swap of Dowson for Morgan for me.

  8. Youngs is miles off his previous form.

He’s not to blame for slow ball out of the rucks, but he is to blame for taking too long to get to the ruck, for indeciveness once there and for taking far too long to get the ball into scrums. His pass looks nowhere near as sharp as Dickson’s either.

He also appears to have stopped trying those speedy little breaks that tie in the opposition back row and open space elsewhere

I think he’d be best off being sent back to Leicester for a while to regain his form. I’d rather either of the Dicksons at the moment or, at a pinch Simpson (who isn’t as good at the basics but has the speed and elusiveness to frighten the opposition).
