England Squad to face Barbarians on Saturday

Martin Johnson has named a 24-man squad to take on the Barbarians at Twickenham this weekend.

Stuart Lancaster will prepare the team, and he commented, “It’s a great opportunity for all the players who are looking to force their way into Martin Johnson’s plans for the World Cup and those who will go on to defend the Churchill Cup with the England Saxons next month.”

The team will be named at 10am on Wednesday. Can any of these stake a claim for the World Cup?

  2. Barbarians team looks interesting. Van Niekerk, Smith and Parisse is rather a good back row…

    Barbarians team:

Jeanjean (Brive); Sackey (Toulon), Baby (Clermont Auvergne), Bastareaud (Stade Francais), Visser (Edinburgh); Michalak (Toulouse), Pienaar (Ulster); Perugini (Aironi), Ghiraldini (Benetton Treviso), Kubriashvili (Toulon), Lund (Biarritz), Tito (Cardiff Blues), Van Niekerk (Toulon), Smith (Toulon), Parisse (Stade Francais, capt).

Replacements: Bruno (Toulon), Hayman (Toulon), Geldenhuys (Aironi), Williams (Cardiff Blues), Tillous-Borde (Castres Olympique), Mason (Toulon), Rabini (La Rochelle).

  3. thats a hell of a side, who wont be taking a backwards step.

i really like how the babaas aim to beat england but have a couple of beers after training!

not a guaranteed win for england.

  4. Absolutely Jimmy.

I’d imagine the england back row will be Narraway, Tom Johnson and Calum Clark. Bit of a test for them ( although Clark may not be too fazed having just faced Heaslip and Sean o’Brien)

Should be a fascinating game. Looking forward to seeing Visser play at this kind of level and finding out if Gaskell can cut it – he’s up against a pretty hefty BaaBaas second row

  5. England team below. Really wish they’d stop playing Banahan at centre – he is not and never will be Sonny Bill Williams

    Clark and Dickson are injured

Good to see JSD get a run out though!
