England’s midweek team to face Australian Barbarians

Martin Johnson’s midweek team for the second Aussie Barbarians encounter suggests that Saturday’s Test team will be pretty much the same.

Although there are seven changes to the starting line up, this squad is fairly similar to last week’s, although Ugo Monye, David Wilson and Geoff Parling do not feature at all this time. Whether that indicates a call up to the Test side is uncertain, as it could just be a result of injuries, or Johnno wanting to give all his tourists a game.

This side looks quite exciting though, and I’ll be interested to see the partnership of Olly Barkley and Dom Waldouck in the centres – both are in the frame for future England Test teams.

If anyone finds the link to the live streaming of the game, perhaps you could let us know.

  1. What does barkley have to do to get a test start, has johnson not always said he will pick his team on, form players? I also thought he might put haskell in the test team for croft, as croft did nothing outside of taking our own lineout on saturday, he put no pressure on the aussies, and seems invisible in the loose.

  2. I agree with Rob’s comment. It is about time Olly got a start in a real test match. I would have thought that he would have provided the perfect support for Flood who is struggling at the moment.

  3. I also agree – I’d like to see Barkley in the side on Saturday. He was interviewed on Sky Sports News and looked pretty annoyed that he probably wouldn’t be involved at the weekend.

I have a feeling Youngs and Jonny will be our half-backs on Saturday, and I think I’d be in favour.

  4. Maybe if Barkley has a good first half he’ll take him off and start him on Saturday. Great to see Waldouck up. I’d go for him and Barkley in the test.

What has Hodgson done to deserve his relegation to 4th place 9? I’d pick him ahead of Care every time.
