France continue march towards Grand Slam

France continued their unbeaten run at the Millennium Stadium against Wales, playing well enough in the first half to build a lead from which the opposition could not come back.

Les Bleus were composed and controlling throughout the first half and went into half-time 20-0 up. Wales nearly mounted another unlikely comeback whilst the French gave up playing for 25 minutes after half time, but ultimately, they did enough to ensure they are still on course for the Championship.

Both sides showed glimpses of brilliance and moments of madness, and France didn’t look quite so invincible as on previous outings. Warren Gatland will not be too happy about all the points leaked in the first half, and if they had kept it tighter, they could have won the game.

It was another pulsating Six Nations match, and we can’t wait for the others.

  1. What a weird game eh?

I thought the French played a very Southern Hemisphere style game. They kicked for territory a lot and then looked to put the pressure on through aggressive blitz defence an tight set pieces (albeit the lineout could have been better).

They then just waited for mistakes, turnovers or penalties to provide the points, and Wales in the first half were even more generous in that department than against the Jocks.

Good fightback by Wales to show a bit of character, but it looks like one hand on the Slam now.
