Gethin Jenkins to miss England game

The Welsh have been dealt a huge blow with the news that Lions prop Gethin Jenkins will miss the England game with a calf injury.

This follows the team announcement that made it clear that Matthew Rees would not be fit either, and so the threat to England of facing an all-Lions front row is much less severe.

Jenkins plays like he’s a back row forward, making huge numbers of tackles and carries in the loose – and he’s also not a bad scrummager!

Ospreys prop Paul James will take his place in the starting line-up. Does this even things up in the front five?

  1. When news like this breaks, Wales’ morale takes a hit, whilst England’s takes a boost.

I think this just about justifies England’s billing as favourites.

  2. Undoubtedly good news, but it would be even better if we found out that Tim Payne had had an unfortunate yachting accident/slipped on some custard/decided to become a hermit…

Although, knowing my pedigree, he will no doubt turn in a man of the match display… Here’s hoping

  3. Whoop Whoop! That’s two out of three just need Jones to go now! That’s the front row pretty evenly balanced now! What a game we have in sotre!

Only bad news is that it that I keep having to change my fantasy team!

    Time to start believing boys!

  4. Wasn’t Parra playing from the off for the Frenchies? Ah well, i’m putting my (no doubt misguided) faith in Care to take on Cooper and give him hell…

  5. Terrible news for Wales. If there’s one man we don’t want out then it’s Gethin. I worry now for the Welsh set piece.
