Ireland names team to play Scotland

irfuJoe Schmidt has named his Ireland team to take on Scotland this weekend. Luke Marshall is preferred in the centre to Gordon D’Arcy, while Andrew Trimble is named on the wing with no room for Luke Fitzgerald, who is suffering from a hip injury, in the squad.

Promising tighthead Martin Moore takes a bench spot, with Mike Ross continuing in the starting jersey. Chris Henry takes the number seven shirt vacated by Sean O’Brien.

  1. Marshall a good call in the centre in my opinion.

    Interesting to see how they play without O’Brien. Henry is very good and arguably better at the breakdown. But he is not the ball carrier that O’Brien is and I think that they may miss that.

  2. Henry is definitely better than O’Brien at the breakdown but yes the ball carrying & tackle breaking will be missed in attack. Ireland will rely more heavily on Healy and Heaslip to carry from the forwards. Marshall will be an excellent 12 but D’arcy is resting for Wales next week. Glad to see Trimble given another chance in green.

  3. O’Brien is such a big blow, been our best player this past year by a blue mile, but delighted to see Chris get a chance although i’m a big fan of Tommy O’Donnell.
