Joe Schmidt has named four uncapped players in his Ireland squad to tour Argentina this summer. Ulster’s Robbie Diack and Rob Herring, Munster’s James Cronin and Connacht’s Kieran Marmion are all in line to win their first caps.
There is no place in the squad for Leinster fly-half Ian Madigan, with Schmidt naming just two recognised outside halves – Johnny Sexton and Paddy Jackson. Madigan will likely tour with Emerging Ireland in Romania.
There is no room for Tommy Bowe, either, who is left at home after an injury-plagued season, leaving Simon Zebo, Rob Kearney, Andrew Trimble, Keith Earls, Fergus McFadden and Felix Jones as the back three options.
Cian Healy, Gordon D’Arcy and Sean O’Brien have been given the summer off, while Brian O’Driscoll’s retirement means a new look centre partnership will take to the field for the first test on June 7th.
Paul O’Connell will captain the side in Argentina.
Ireland play Argentina in Resistencia on June 7 and Tucuman on June 15.
