  1. Fionn Carr and Fergus McFadden are two players who could feel hard-done by. The Irish backline is definitely missing out-and-out pace that Carr can provide. McFadden has been performing well this season but can’t break through the the senior squad.
Mick O’Driscoll earns a well deserved call-up, playing the best rugby of his career this season. Damien Varley will, I suspect, be taking Jerry Flannery’s spot as he has had a reoccurance of the calf injury that has kept him on the sidelines for so long.
In the front row, looks like Tony Buckley will cement his first-choice place, Horan and Hayes will be used sparingly in the coming season. Congrats to both Devin Toner and Johne Murphy on their debut caps.
Luke Fitzgerald will make the squad, would seriously doubt Flannery will make it at this stage.

  2. Interesting point about the lack of pace…Earls and Bowe are the best bets for gas, although Fitzgerald isn’t slow if he makes the side. It looks to me like there is reasonable depth to the squad, even with a few big names missing through injury.

Will 2 wins out of 4 be satisfactory this Autumn?

  3. I feel a bit sorry for Geordan Murphy…it wasn’t long ago that he captained the side, and now he’s dropped. A stop-start international career over?
