Johnno names England team to face New Zealand Maori

Martin Johnson has named his team to take on the New Zealand Maori on Wednesday in England’s last tour match.

After the victory over Australia on Saturday, it must feel as though the season is over, but this squad will face an almighty challenge when they face the Maori.

Chris Ashton is the only player that featured in Saturday’s game, and I can’t quite figure out the logic in playing him in this one unless there are injuries to worry about.

Dave Attwood and Geoff Parling get another run out in the second row, whilst captain Chris Robshaw and Phil Dowson will be worth watching in the back row – and this game is live on Sky Sports at 08.35 UK time tomorrow morning.

  1. gd looking team especially the back row there all pretty quick and hopefully dowson can show why he should be in the test team, but why is danny take 3 steps care starting? surely he would let one of the midweek 9’s start for example hodgson who hasn’t started a single game yet? oh and does geragthy not deserve a start either?

  2. I like the look of the team as well, but there were certainly one or two names that I couldn’t understand. There might be injuries that we don’t know about.

Agree with you on 3 steps Care (like the name)…maybe they are trying to develop strong competition for the 9 jersey, and they are backing Care to be Youngs’ main challenger?

Not sure why Tait is in midfield either – I’d much rather see Waldouck in the centres rather than ’40 caps and still no impact Tait’.

  3. Name-wise I like ’40 caps and still no impact Tait’. Waldouck is struggling with an injury apparently. Tait was supposed to play on the wing instead of Ashton.

Simpson still has a lot to learn and Care is now second choice so I’ve personally got no problem with him starting. Youngs’ performance will hopefully inspire him to play a blinder. I’ll be very impressed if we win this one…

  4. Not sure Sinbad was in contention for this, but yes, I would also prefer Sinbad over Strettle. That sort of support for Sinbad will go down well on this site, Mark!
