Magners League Predictions 2010/11: Round 1

Here are my Magners League predictions for the first round as the new season finally gets underway.

With little form to go on, I’ll be relying on a lot of luck, but fingers are crossed for a reasonable haul of SportGuru points.

Glasgow were one of the top teams in the first half of last season, but I’m backing Leinster to turn them over. Some of the Scots’ success must have been down to their opposition missing Lions players, and they won’t have so much luck this season. They are struggling with one or two injuries as well, whilst Leinster look strong.

I’m expecting Ulster to be a force this season, particularly at home, and that’s why I’m backing them to beat the Ospreys, which some might think is controversial. I’ve also gone for a Connacht win over the Dragons but that game really could go either way.

So, five home wins out of six, four victories for the Irish teams, two defeats for the Italians – what do you think?

Glasgow Warriors v Leinster: Leinster by 8
Ulster v Ospreys: Ulster by 6
Connacht Rugby v Gwent Dragons: Connacht Rugby by 5
Benetton Treviso v Scarlets: Scarlets by 13
Cardiff Blues v Edinburgh: Cardiff Blues by 13
Munster v Aironi Rugby: Munster by 27
