The weekend kicks off tonight with the first Magners League semi-final between Leinster and Ulster.
With three Irish sides making up the top four, it’s not hugely controversial to predict an all-Irish final, particularly with the Ospreys having to travel to Thomond Park.
The Heineken Cup final that Leinster will be playing in next week could be a factor in the first fixture, but I still expect them to overcome Ulster tonight – you can back Ulster at 6.6, which shows how unfancied they are. I rate their chances higher than that, but I reckon the Dublin side will have enough class to see them off.
In the other fixture, Munster are obviously clear favourites. They finished at the top of the league by a distance, whereas the Ospreys were dreadful in sneaking past Aironi to make the top four. Normally you’d call Thomond Park a fortress, but Harlequins’ victory recently suggests that it isn’t quite so impenetrable – but I still don’t think the Ospreys will win.
Here are my SportGuru predictions for the semi-finals:
Leinster v Ulster: Leinster by 13
Munster v Ospreys: Munster by 8
