The RFU seems to have taken a leaf out of the rugby league books with the new England rugby union strip.
The red slash across the front makes it look like some sort of superhero costume that wouldn’t look out of place with a flowing red cape in tow. In another light, the way the stripe flows seamlessly into the shorts makes it look like some sort of sash reminiscent of the girl guides.
So superheroes, or girl guides? One thing we can be sure of is that the new strip is another string in the bow for the RFU’s commercial arm, the revenue from which they will no doubt fritter away on management consultants.
The best thing about the new England kit though, is the prospect of seeing the pot-bellied pub dweller sporting the skin-tight version looking more like Jo Brand than Joe Worsley.
