Wales winger George North has been passed fit to face Australia in the first test this weekend, after tearing his hamstring in the win against the Combined Country XV. Assistant coach Rob Howley has praised the hard work North has put in to get himself in shape
“I’ve not seen him in a better physical shape,” said Howley. “George was up bright and early this morning and came through a fitness test. It is a huge fillip and a real morale booster to have someone like him fit.
“He has been icing his hamstring continually throughout the day. His whole focus has been getting himself right. It is completely different from other tours we have been on, the professionalism among these talented players.
“They are preparing for the biggest game in the calendar year and their diligence and professionalism can only be admired from within the camp. It shows how much they want to wear that red jersey.”
England and Leicester centre Manu Tuilagi is still an unknown, given the nature of his shoulder injury. With Jamie Roberts highly likely to miss out, Gatland and his coaches will be hoping Tuilagi can recover in time.
