Post Match Reaction: New Zealand 42 Ireland 10

Julian Savea ran in a hat-trick on debut as the All Blacks hammered Ireland 42-10 in Auckland. New Zealand looked back to their best, running in five tries in all in Steve Hansen’s first game in charge.

Ireland did pick up a consolation score when Fergus McFadden outpaced Richie McCaw to a bouncing ball, but on an evening were they showed flashes of positives at the scrum and breakdown they were comprehensively beaten.

What did you make of this morning’s game?

    1. and in other news wales U20’s ended the baby blacks 21 game unbeaten run in the JWC last night 9-6.

  1. Know it would be a win for New Zealand, but not such a big score. Some players as bad as the couch. Murray and Sexton not a combination, Earls not a match for New Zealand centres, ankle socks Zebo and O’mahony was useless.

Seriously time for Kidney to go. Get somebody who can pick players and wants to couch and not stand with a smile on his face when Ireland lost a game. Kidney is a joke and so is some of his beloved Munster players.

    1. Thought O’Mahoney had a good game as did Earls. Admittedly Zebo looked lost and confused.

  2. I just don’t understand how Ireland’s usual awesome defence just melts when they travel south. Savea’s second try he bundled through 2 Irish defenders. if that was 6n then they would have held it up. It must be a mental thing. Surely when playing away from home esp.the southern hemisphere your primary focus must be defence and keep it tight as eng did in the6n. Must learn to walk before we can run.

  3. Good game, good defence but ireland could just not pull it off…. can only get better, let seee what comes next weekend..

  4. What game were you watching Roger? Unless your a kiwi to beat the allblacks you have to knock them off there game and score tries ! Something that teams from the north struggle to do

  5. I thought omahony had a good gme however was very disappointed by jamie heaslip and mcfadden. Too many mistakes overall also. Yu cant make those silly mistakes against a team lke the all blacks.

  6. Thought the all blacks would have too much firepower for the Irish. Trying just isn’t good enough against SH teams. Need to actually go in for the kill against them.

    1. You mean like we did against Australia in the WC. Ireland were denied a try at the end illegitimately – convincing win with or without players missing. Ireland don’t fear the Aussies or the Bokkes like they fear the AB’s. And a full strength New Zealand with Carter playing can steamroll anyone. They whopped Australia in the WC without Cater. I think Ireland will get closer for the next test.

  7. Hopes were high but reality kicked in last night at Eden Park. Missing a few keys players for sure but even so I doubt it would have made much difference. Rugby over here is like a production line, they just keep churning out these amazingly gifted players. The only good to come out of it was my hangover – but even that’s not good, the guiness here is shite.

    1. Most NH teams fail to come to grips with the pace of the game down here. After the 1st quarter Ireland were flagging. From then on it was a one way procession

  8. for a positive (if small) point, kearney’s hand off on sonny bill and healey’s (latish) tackle on sonny bill.
