RBS 6 Nations 2011: Ireland team to play Scotland

Declan Kidney has made three changes to his side for their trip to Murrayfield this weekend.

Ronan O’Gara is preferred to Jonny Sexton at fly-half, partnering Eoin Reddan at scrum half, whilst Tommy Bowe returns on the win instead of Fergus McFadden.

What do you think? Is this a team that can win in Murrayfield?

  1. No.

We are playing a kick and chase game against a team with 2 6’8” locks and 2 6’4” back rows. And we are eschewing a running game against a team with 4 wingers in their 3/4 line.

And how Earls stayed in and McFadden dropped is beyond me – his positioning is poor on the wing. Trimble and McFadden would both have been better options.

  2. O’Gara to pin Scotland in their half for most of the game, which will lead to points. With Jackson’s kicking Scotland will rarely leave their own half, and you can be assured that if Max Evans finally steps someone and then runs forward he will find a supporting player to drop it. Or maybe he’ll kick it. Or possibly drop it himself. Either way, Ireland have little to worry about this week at least.

  3. Pretty surprised that McFadden was dropped instead of Keith Earls…good to see Bowe back, but I’d have stuck with McF on the other wing.

  4. I was about to say McFadden hasn’t done too much, but then neither has Earls! Earls and Walker will be on the same wing so maybe it is time for Nikki to pull a ‘Mike Catt’ moment out of the bag. Or drop it.
