RBS 6 Nations 2011: Scotland team to play Wales

Andy Robinson has named his side to take on Wales at Murrayfield this weekend, with only one change to the bench.

“We were disappointed as players and management that we did not start the championship with a win against France. We are determined to put that right with an improved performance against Wales,” Robinson said.

Will this side heap yet more misery on Warren Gatland’s Welsh side?

  1. I have three areas in which I’d like to see changes, but then again I’m not a coach!

    1) Southwell does not offer much in terms of solidarity. He rarely is in the position to make important tackles, and has a habit of falling off them when he happens to be near an attacker. His kicking is often aimless, and his running… well, who knows? Rory Lamont please (or Thompson if we’re going for a running game). Rory’s probably injured though.

    2) I don’t think Hines played particularly badly at 6 last week, although he did seem to be leaving off pushing in the scrum so he could chase the ball afterwards. (Perhaps due to his relative lack of pace.) I’d much rather have Vernon in.

    3) Moray for Murray. Perhaps Euan will be fired up, but I’m not sure that will help, he seems one of the ‘hard bastard’ type props who would never hit you, but would break your neck in the scrum. Also, picking a player on the basis he might dominate in the scrums seems somewhat risky, and add to this that he doesn’t offer much in the loose. And we can’t pick him after this until Italy.

I lie, there’s a fourth change I’d like. Please no more Nikki Walker! I don’t care if he runs in a hundred for the Hairsprays, he always seems confused by the notion of international rugby.
Glad Lamont isn’t at 12 though. Can you imagine the joy Hook and Davies would have attacking him. And the idea of Ansbro being denied any ball makes me cry.

  2. Should add that De Luca was unlucky his error led to a French try. He wasn’t great, but he allowed some backs movement. And if we’re criticising players for giving away tries then Evans must be culpable. And Hugo. And Henderson.

  3. As an english man, but rugby fan, i think Southwell is v average. no running game and scotland need to score tries. get Lamont on!!!!!!
