  1. This french team aren’t posing much of a threat. We’ve had the best defence of any team all tournement. I can see us putting the french away in Paris. Especially since our midfield is a defensive brick wall. Frances backlines looking pretty stagnant. Reminds me of watching england in the world cup pool stages.
The one thing that could have an outcome on the game, is how Lee Dickson copes with being behind a pack that isn’t dominating. Stevens also looks set to keep his place on the bench. I might give jason leonard a ring and see if he fancies another cap to add to his ton. Hed probably give less pens away than stevens!

    1. best defence? Solid in midfield against Wales but lost a try from a turnover late on. Two against Italy and should have conceeded against Scots.

      1. But we didn’t concede against the Scots, and they have scored tries against Wales and France. Currently we have only conceded 40 points. Six less than both France and Wales. So yes, we have the best defence.

  2. Interesting choices at 9 & 10 are the Froggies underestimating us?

Think this is the weakest starting XV the French have put out so far which gives me hope but it’s still packed with match winners. Personally with that team and the way France have played in their last 2 matches I think we are in with a fighting chance of getting a good result.

  3. That’s a formidable pack and Harinordiquy will play his best game of the six nations against us as he always does! Looks like it will be a game of territory for the French with boom boom Beauxis putting France well in to the English 22 and then letting the pack rumble on. Going to be a hard game!

  4. Its funny but generally the French have such strength in depth but I have to ask the question as to whether TrunDuc, Beaxis and Skrela are the best 10s they have?

Feel fairly positve about this match too, or I will do up until the point that Stevens is brought on!

  5. France have underperformed but not lost yet. They played appallingly against the irish, but still won.

Frogs in paris V the english. we could have a absolute belter if the frogs turn it on and they are due for a big performance.

the main reason for quiet French performances? Quiet Dusautoir. When he plays well, the frogs play well.

lets hope he doesnt decide to play well against us!

  6. I’m most worried about that French pack, and they could pick Mauro Bergamasco at 9 and they’d still be dominant enough to provide decent ball for the backs.

That said, England’s front row held up pretty well against Italy and it could have been worse against Wales, so they might just about survive…

  7. If our pack can go toe to toe with the frogs for 80 mins, i quite fancy our chances. Main concern for me is their bench as its immense. If we are to win this, i think we need to put them away in the first 60 mins

That said, the frogs are due their “one” fantastic performance, and it’d be typical for it to be against us

Is Tom Wood back with the England squad yet? Know he played last weekend for saints

  8. I’m pleased Parra and Trinh-Duc are relegated to the bench. You know where you are with Beauxis and Dupuy – there won’t be any magic, it’ll be kick to the corners and let the pack rumble

Also pleased Picamoles isn’t starting. Think his physicality would have caused us problems – as we will probably see with Maestri

Scythe Rougerie down and mark Fofana well and the ball will never get to the wingers

Hope Strettle and Ashton have been getting some practice in on looking for the interception and that everyone has been practising charge-downs – Beauxis looked ripe for the picking against Ireland

Should be an excellent game. i hope England approach it with the attitude they showed against Wales

Also hope that Lancaster has learned that sticking to your planned subs, come what may, is not that good an idea

  9. Para and TD had to go as there has been no control from them, they have had more quick ball than most half-backs to work with and they haven’t made good decisions. I like Dupuy he is electric and arogant which is good in a 9, can’t say the same for Beauxis, I think he is an average 10 on a good day.

Can’t understand why Rougerie is still in the team maybe he is up for it he is very inspireing on the good days. However, with the french back line unable to string passes together, I can’t understand why Mermoz is on the bench he would be a creative spark, can’t be his defence because the french defence couldn’t be any worse.

Their pack is scary though and Beauxis can kick the ball, as Englanf can’t score tries Iw ould still back France.

  10. If we can keep up with their pack, I think we will win. In the backs, Rougerie and Fofana will have real trouble getting past Barritt and Tuilagi. The one thing we need to do is upset Beauxis early on (Botha’s job), and put him off his kicking. Engalnd can win this, but it will be our toughest game yet.

  11. Gotta back France for this one.

Beauxis hasn’t exactly covered himself in glory this tournament ( missed two drops against Ireland), scored a drop against the Scots at Murrayfield but then also missed what by his standards was a kickable penalty.

There’s a big incentive for him though- he was on the losing side in that RWC 2007 semifinal despite scoring nine points, also at the Stade.

This will be a real test for SL- playing away from home against opponents who are still due a “big performance”

  12. Interesting selection. thought he would of stuck with same team.

anyone know when Englands team is out?

    1. Team announcement is tomorrow, with the players released we are down to:

      – The 22 from the Wales game
      – Minus Lawes
      – Plus Palmer, Marler, K. Dickson
