RBS Six Nations 2012: France Player Ratings v England

15. Clément Poitrenaud – 6

Targeted early on under the high ball, Poitrenaud did look menacing when he made a series of half breaks.

14. Vincent Clerc – 5

Departed in the second half clutching his left arm. Has not shone going forward in the same manner as we’ve seen in previous championships.

13. Aurélien Rougerie – 5

At fault for Croft’s decisive try, highlighting how he is not a natural centre in defence. A bit of a slump.

12. Wesley Fofana – 7

Became the third player ever to score four tries in their first four matches. So much more to come from him.

11. Julien Malzieu – 6

Lethal streak shown for Clermont not transferring to the international stage.

10. Lionel Beauxis – 6

Did the best he could trying to implement the stifling French game plan. Kicked well when taking over from Dupuy.

9. Julien Dupuy – 4

A poor selection and performance. Shadow of the player he used to be when at Leicester.

1. Jean-Baptiste Poux – 5

Sometimes on top but generally under the cosh from Dan Cole.

2. Dimitri Szarzewski – 5

Very poor in the loose, passes turned over constantly. Set-piece average.

3. Nicolas Mas – 6

Put the squeeze on and then looked flabbergasted when he was penalised. Has been better.

4. Pascal Papé – 7

Some player. Great at the lineout, took plenty of solid restarts and looked a real problem in attack.

5. Yoann Maestri – 6

Overshadowed by Papé. Will need to be far more assertive against Wales.

6. Thierry Dusautoir – 7

Pretty good, if not at his best. The power in his tackles is astonishing.

7. Julien Bonnaire – 6

Crucially missed Ben Morgan, but flashes of his class. The elder statesman rumbles on.

8. Imanol Harinordoquy – 7

Hates the English, so the result will hurt. As the game went on he looked better and sharper, the most threatening French runner in the loose.

Replacements:

Servat and Picamoles made an impact in the loose, whilst Maxime Mermoz would make a solid combination next weekend against Wales alongside Wesley Fofana in the centre. Morgan Parra should never have been dropped, his kicks at goal were majestic.

  1. Harsh on Harinordoquy – I thought that he was outstanding. 8 at least and that includes consideration of him missing Croft, when he’d already left everything on the pitch.

Generally think that you are being a bit harsh on the French. Rougerie showed much more in attack and broke the first line of defence a couple of times. Mas was all over the pitch despite a real battle in the Scrum, Poux held his own and Poitrenaud played his best game IMO.
