RFU posts advert for England backs coach before end of RWC

The RFU appear to be advertising for a new Backs Coach before the current World Cup has even ended

It would seem that the search for the future of England’s coaching group has begun in earnest before their home World Cup has even finished.

In the recruitment section of the RFU website, there is a job listing for an ‘International Performance Coach’, in which the blurb states that “experience and expertise in coaching all aspects of Back/three-quarter play is essential”.

Here’s the rest of the information posted about the role:

The International Performance Department is responsible for developing the England players and teams of the future.

We currently have an incredibly exciting opportunity for an International Performance Coach who will be responsible for delivering high performance talent identification, coaching and player development across the International Performance programmes.

They will hold specific responsibility for both individual, unit and squad coaching delivery, as directed by the Head of International Player Development, and in alignment with the England Rugby Senior programmes, working with the relevant National England Coaches and performance programmes, will identify and develop players with the potential to play for England at 15s and 7s.

The post holder will also be required to assist the Head of Professional Coach Development with the delivery of Coach Education programmes (e.g. Regional Academy Rugby Days).

The successful candidate will hold an RFU Level 4 coaching award (or equivalent) as a minimum. They will possess demonstrable experience as a high performance coach, with respect and credibility gained at International and Premiership (or equivalent) standard. Experience and expertise in coaching all aspects of Back/three-quarter play is essential and they will also have experience of self-directed work and working as part of a team.

For the right candidate, the RFU offers competitive benefits, a culture built on solid core values and an opportunity to join an organisation that is extremely dedicated and passionate about the work that they do.

Whether this means a reshuffling of the current coaching group or if it spells bad news for Andy Farrell, it remains to be seen.

Still, the closing date for applications given is the 20th October, meaning anyone wishing to apply would have to do so before the end of the current World Cup and almost certainly before any comprehensive review into England’s disastrous tournament could be completed.

What happened to thorough review in the cold light of day after the dust settles???

Is this a Night of the Long Knives already in the making???

You left out the top line – “The International Performance Department is responsible for developing the England players and teams of the future”

Like Geat says, sounds like a development role somewhere. Non story.
