Scotland names pack to play Wales, delays announcement on backs

scotlandScott Johnson has made the unusual decision to name just his pack for Scotland’s final Six Nations game against Wales this weekend. He has additionally named a squad of 13 backs from which the matchday ten will be selected.

The only change to the pack sees Ryan Wilson reinstated at blindside flanker, with Johnnie Beattie returning to the bench.

Injuries to the back division mean Johnson will assess his options in training today and tomorrow before selecting his starters and bench contingent. The uncapped Dougie Fife is in with a shout after impressing for Edinburgh this term, as is teammate Jack Cuthbert and Glasgow’s Richie Vernon, who only earlier this season converted from back-row to outside centre. Lee Jones, who won his last cap two years ago, is also in contention.

  1. Johnson really doesn’t have a clue does he? I hear he also wants the MS roof closed! That’s worth another few points to Wales to add to home advantage. Talk about play to your strengths.
