Scotland team to play Japan

scotlandHead coach Scott Johnson has named his Scotland team to take on Japan this weekend at Murrayfield. The biggest shock comes in the absences of Richie Gray from the starting line-up; he is named on the bench as Tim Swinson and Al Kellock, both in fine form for Glasgow, get the nod.

Stuart Hogg’s injury means Sean Maitland slots in at fullback, while Kelly Brown captains the side from a back-row that also includes the rejuvenated Dave Denton. The Scarlets’ John Barclay returns from the international wilderness to take his place on the bench.

Scotland XV v Japan:

Sean Maitland; Tommy Seymour, Nick De Luca, Matt Scott, Sean Lamont; Ruaridh Jackson, Greig Laidlaw; Ryan Grant, Ross Ford, Euan Murray, Tim Swinson, Al Kellock, Kelly Brown (c), Al Strokosch, David Denton.
Subs: Pat MacArthur, Al Dickinson, Geoff Cross, Richie Gray, John Barclay, Henry Pyrgos, Duncan Weir, Duncan Taylor
