  1. Roger Wilson for number 8.

Plays amazing every week but stays under the radar for some reason.

  2. I struggle to argue with Opta’s team of the year based on their stats from all 22 rounds.

However, I think Olly Barkley deserves a shout for what he accomplished in only half a season.

Here’s Opta’s team of the year:

    15 Nick Abendanon (Bath Rugby)
    14 Chris Ashton (Northampton Saints)
    13 Ben Jacobs (London Wasps)
    12 Brad Barritt (Saracens)
    11 Bruce Reihana (Northampton Saints)
    10 Jimmy Gopperth (Newcastle Falcons)
    9 Ben Youngs (Leicester Tigers)
    1 Soane Tonga’uiha (Northampton Saints)
    2 Schalk Brits (Saracens)
    3 Carl Hayman (Newcastle Falcons)
    4 Erik Lund (Leeds Carnegie)
    5 Marco Wentzel (Leeds Carnegie)
    6 Phil Dowson (Northampton Saints)
    7 Steffon Armitage (London Irish)
    8 Dan Ward-Smith (London Wasps)

  3. I am confused however Courtney Lawes isn’t one of the options for 2nd row – especially as everyone, all season long, has sung his praises

  4. I actually left out Lawes from the shortlist for a couple of reasons. The first is that he has been playing at 6 a lot, and the second is that he hasn’t really lived up to the hype.

Kruger, Wentzel, Atwood and Parling would all get my vote in the GP Team of the Year ahead of Lawes at second row.

If we are picking the England team, and the choice is between Louis Deacon or Lawes, then he’d get my vote!

Happy to be talked around though if you disagree…

  5. It’s a fair assessment Hutch

So who would you pick for the summer tour 2nd row partnership?

  6. I don’t really understand why Dan Ward-Smith is in the Opta team at 8 – he’s not had a great season at Wasps…Roger Wilson has been immense.
