  1. Can’t see why Trinh Duc and Bastereaud were dropped. The first had a stormer against England and the second did fine, but was up against someone as big as him. That won’t happen against Ireland, and would have provided a matchup nightmare for the men in green.

    1. I wonder if Saint-André is nervous about Bastareaud being exposed in defence by BOD? Agree about Michalak though, no idea why he’s there instead of Trinh-Duc. Seems crazy.

  2. Think Les Bleus have a natural born successor to Bernie Le Clic. Michalek is having a mare of a season at fly-half. Maybe PST thinks he needs game time?

  3. I think Saint-André must be banking on Michalak pulling out the form that saw him win MoM in all but 1 of the Autumn tests. The problem is that any French coach should have seen that Michalak has awesome spells but is largely questionable. I’m not sure why the 30 year old who is not covered in glory and is unlikely to play the next world cup gets picked over a 26 year old who is well in form and a much cleverer/more consistent player. Seems like madness to me.

Otherwise, it seems a reasonable team. I think this is the pack that’s going to work for France for the next little while and pretty much the backline and at least Parra starts ahead of Machenaud.

  4. Masterstroke by Kidney, by picking A.N. Other @ 10, he has managed to bamboozle PSA into picking Michalak.

Bastareaud off the bench is reasonable in my opinion, much more likely to stick some dents in the opposition when they bodies are already tired.

Looking forward to a good scrum battle. If there is a better scrummaging loosehead in the world than Domnigo I can’t name him.

      1. Before I opened the article I thought I bet he’s mad enough to pick Michalak .A N Other (O’Ther as he’s Irish surely ) will play him off the park.

  5. I can see Marshall and Bod giving Michalak a torrid time (hopefully), and Fritz and Fofana will have some holes to fill. Giving space out wide for Earls and McFadden to exploit. This is going to be great. Come on you Irish!!

  6. God they really don’t like Trin Duc in France, it was the same nonsense during the world cup, I’m lost, they played their best half of six nations rugby during the first against England.

Bastarued is more deabtable, I like Fritz and the lack of times that the french wingers toutched the ball would make him want better haands in the centres. But a tough call nontheless.
