    1. He still has Jackson and madigan, as well as the chance to call up other Irish qualified players. O’gara played himself out of the team

  1. Don’t see that it’s a problem not to name 10 – we know that Jackson’s the man in possession – if it’s an fitness wait then why not. Disappointed to see that Fitzgerald’s still on the bench behind Earls – he’s shown a big improvement since he’s returned and he looks match-fit. I’d rather have him there to meet Clerc than Earls.

  2. Dear O’Gara, I hate you so much that I’d rather we played with 14 men than give you a place in my squad. Yours sincerely, Declan Kidney. X.

  3. Would love to see the inclusion of Gareth the goalkicker from Exeter but wouldn’t want to nominate who to leave out. It’s great to be calling the shots from the sofa!

  4. I think it is quite clear that Jackson will start with madigan on the bench.

I am not sure why he didnt just delay the naming of the squad if he was worried about Jackson’s fitness until Thursday.

  5. I think the Irish camp is in disarray. After a great win over Wales the whole season has imploded. Kidney has been
unlucky with injuries but must take spot of the blame his treatment of o Driscoll was very poor and it was clear to see in the Wales game who the players looked to for leadership. O gara should not of been part of the squad from the start of the campaign he was a great player but no more. I think we could be in for a very bad beating on Saturday, hope I’m wrong.
Please someone in the IRFU get Joe Smit to take the job maybe along side Conor o Shea

    1. Have to agree that the players seem to look to BOD. I recall him taking the ball at a penalty and telling heaslip what to do. No disrespect to BOD, but the mantle has been passed (whether it was right or wrong to do so) he has to let the next generation get on with it now. His job is to be there to develop the younger players and provide an aid to heaslip, not simply to dominate him. O’driscoll should be teaching the likes of Marshall and cave how to develop into players like him.

  6. Am surprised that Steensen hasn’t had a call up to the squad. Oh and is this the first time that three brothers have all been in the same squad. Mrs Other will be proud! I guess the Wallace’s managed it on a semi serious note.

    1. Not sure about that Staggy. I don’t think Richard and David’s time crossed – though I may well be wrong!

  7. Kidney seems to be putting in a late challenge to PSA for top comedy coach. PSA may have picked players out of position, but at least he picked players!

Don’t understand what he has to gain by announcing half a team early, why not delay?

And we have Healy back after, in effect, a 1 game ban. Whilst I think this is an absolute joke …. well done to him and his representatives for a successful appeal. Hopefully the disciplinary committee now learn a lesson from being made to look stupid and stop being a bunch of pussies. If they had just gone with mid range = 5 weeks there wouldn’t have been a problem, complicating matters with mitigation and adjusting start dates left the loopholes to be exploited.

  8. Have to say i think Keith Earls is very lucky to hang on to his place after his display last weekend and overall lack of form especialy with luke fitzgerald looking so sharp. As far as the outhalf situation if you were picking on form the pecking order in my opinion was 1.sexton 2.madigan 3.jackson 4.Ian keatley 5.ROG so o gara should never have been in the squad and it wouldnt have had to been such a bad experience for all concerned. I can understand why kidney with the futher in mind changed the captincy but heaslip has proved and will prove in the future that he handles the press badly and often says some silly comments and not certen enough in the calls he makes. Hardly th traits of a good captin. If kidney were to step down would love to see conor o’shea take the job or atleast some roll.

  9. Has anyone considered that maybe Kidney has picked Jedward, and is keeping it a secret until the last minute!!

  10. Should be interesting to see Marshall performe again done well last against Scotland the paddys can just hope he’s worked on his finishing passes. Don’t know how he’ll do if saint-andre decides to bring basteraud on physically defending but we’ll see.
