England head coach Eddie Jones has recalled 25 players for a three-day training camp in central London beginning today. Maro Itoje (Saracens) and Dylan Hartley (Northampton Saints) also join up with the squad to continue their rehabilitation.

Ellis Genge (Leicester Tigers)
Jamie George (Saracens)
Nathan Hughes (Wasps)
George Kruis (Saracens)

It’s interesting to see Ollie Devoto on this list, and there’s no Mike Brown, Dan Robson or Dan Cole, who will be available for their clubs this weekend.

    1. ? I think that only 6 have been retained and I have just double checked the list above. However I might have missed someone. I have been known to search a cupboard for something several times unsuccessfully only for my wife to point out that it is straight in front of my nose!

        1. Don, I think that the person not seeing the wood for the trees is probably you! You seem to have a bee in your bonnet that England have played a regimented kicking game against Ireland and France. They played what was in front of them. That is not regimented.

  1. Does Robson need game time for fitness? Or concerns or he do with time getting used to playing in a team and system he hadn’t ever played in….?
What is it with EJ and scrum halves?

  2. He must feel Robson needs game time. He’s not going to start the Wales match with just one scrum half.
As for Brown, perhaps he feels Daly has done enough for his place and he doesn’t need Brown as a safety net
Do hope we get to see Cokasaniga again during this 6 nations

  3. One scrum half? Robson has had only ten minutes of game time in the past two weeks and will get limited squad time if brought in late. Why no Care back in the squad if he thinks Robson is undercooked? Seems ridiculous to be messing about with a key position.

    1. Perhaps that is exactly it. if Robson doesn’t stay with England this week he can pick up game time with Wasps to keep sharp before coming back into the squad next week

      1. May well be right Leon, but if Robson gets injured playing for Wasps you have no back up to Young s in the squad, and if Young s gets injured in training you have nobody at all. I also think a squad needs three players in a key position and Eddie is spreading himself very thin at 9.

        1. yes but this is only a training squad not an actual squad. We will see a new 25 announced late next week with the real contenders for the matchday 23 probably with Robson back in and Devoto back out

          1. It does however mean that Youngs is almost certainly starting against Wales and Robson will be given a minimal amount of minutes off the bench

          2. Leon, do you think he’s looking at Devoto as another potential 12? If Tuilagi gets injured, Devoto wouldn’t be a bad back up, considering his partnership with Slade at the Chiefs, plus he’s not exactly small.

  4. I really don’t understand why he is only taking one scrum half for a three day training camp? Robson is only going to improve within the squad, if he’s training with the squad?
What if Youngs picks up an injury on the first day of the camp? Do they then rush Robson back in for the rest of the camp????

      1. I guess EJ thought a competitive full game with Wasps might be a better way to get sharp than time in the England camp.
If he gets injured, EJ still has Care or Wigglesworth to turn to
