The results in Round 2 of the Guinness Premiership were coming in as expected by the SportGuru community, until Newcastle recorded their second draw in a row and left the majority of people scratching their heads. Some of the fixtures in Round 3 look relatively straightforward to predict, but there are one or two that have divided opinion in the Official Guinness Premiership Prediction Game.
Sale Sharks v Bath
Bath visit Sale on Friday night desperate to rise from the bottom of the table, but only 14% of Gurus are predicting a win for the West Country side in Stockport. Just over 85% expect a home win to kick off the weekend’s action, and the average overall pick is Sale by 5.
Gloucester Rugby v Northampton Saints
Gloucester’s heavy defeat at London Irish last week has not deterred 76% of the community from backing the cherry and whites in their match against Northampton. The Kingsholm factor could be significant in people’s calculations, but the consensus is for a close match, with the average overall pick as Gloucester by 4.
Harlequins v Saracens
Harlequins against Saracens at The Stoop appears to be the closest match to call this weekend, with 56% predicting a victory for the Away side. Harlequins have lost two from two so far this season, whist Sarries have won both of their matches in impressive fashion. Nevertheless, 43% of the community are still expecting a Home win, but the average overall pick is Saracens by 1.
Leicester Tigers v Newcastle Falcons
Leicester Tigers host Newcastle on Saturday with a record crowd expected at the newly expanded Welford Road, and there is very little doubt in the SportGuru community about which way this one will go. Just over 98% are predicting a victory for the home side, and the average overall pick is Leicester by 12.
Leeds Carnegie v London Irish
The impressive display by London Irish last weekend has made them very strong favourites for their visit to Leeds Carnegie, with 97% expecting a win for the Exiles. One particularly optimistic supporter has predicted a 54-point margin, but the average overall pick is London Irish by 12.
London Wasps v Worcester Warriors
Two wins for Wasps so far this season has meant that they are widely expected to beat Worcester at home, with 95% of the community backing a win for the London side. The Warriors came close to beating Northampton in week 1 before overcoming Leeds last weekend, but only 5% are predicting an upset – the average overall pick is Wasps by 9.
