Steve Borthwick could miss France game

Martin Johnson has said that captain Steve Borthwick is a doubt for this Saturday’s clash with France in Paris. He has had specialist treatment on a knee injury today and may not be eligible for selection.

Johnno’s hand could be forced by this news, and it would surely mean a start for Courtney Lawes – unless Simon Shaw recovers from the injury that kept him out of the Ireland game.

It would mean that Johnno has to hand over the captain’s armband to somebody else, and there’s a chance that whoever receives it will not give it back.

  1. FYI pretty sure Shaw is fit for selection so as much as we want Lawes it will probably be a Shaw-Deacon combo!

  2. Good, the most unremarkable second row forward to ever grace an England shirt. Hopefully Shaw will still be out and Deacon will move aside for Lawes and Kennedy

  3. Probably this is the change for Johnno to hand the captaincy over to Louis Deacon! I know you all agree with me that this would be a big step forward and let us all hope that Big Louis will not give the captaincy away untill the World Cup

  4. Every cloud has a silver lining – lets hope Johnno gives all the probakes a run out – crickey, put the saxons out if need be.

  5. Just to clarify – a second string side can sometimes pull off an upset. In the mid 80’s I was playing in a club trials match (2nd 15 v 1st 15) I was hoiked in from the 4th 15 to play in this flood li match. We beat the 1st 15 2 tries to one. I have forgotten who the probakes are – but I had a glass of alentejo after supper. (hic).
