Super Rugby Predictions 2018: Round 12

Super Rugby predictions

A fine start in Round 11 was enough to yield green arrows on Superbru, with the first two matches predicted with margin points. Only 4% had the Reds to beat the Lions, and 36% predicted a Jaguares win in Auckland, which were the two I missed, but we were amongst the 49% that picked the Highlanders’ victory over the Bulls.

Thank you for the kind messages last week – I enjoyed the mix of baby congratulations with uncertainty over the match at Loftus. I’ll print them out and show my daughter one day!

Here are my predictions for Round 12 of Super Rugby.

Chiefs v Jaguares
With three away wins in a row, the Jaguares are suddenly looking like playoff contenders, and the Chiefs might be regretting taking this match to Rotorua, rather than their usual home in Hamilton. I may be proved wrong again, but I can’t see the Argentinian outfit winning this one. Chiefs by 13

Rebels v Crusaders
It’s four defeats in a row for the Rebels, and now have to face the defending champions having just returned from a tour of South Africa. I think the Crusaders will win comfortably. Crusaders by 18

Hurricanes v Lions
This looks like a fairly straightforward home win for the Hurricanes, given the Lions lost away at the lowly Reds last weekend. Hurricanes by 18

Waratahs v Blues
Could this finally be a win for an Aussie side against a Kiwi side? The Blues have only won two matches all season, whilst the Tahs sit atop the Australian conference, but we’ve been burnt by this temptaion before, so I’m going to back the Blues. Blues by 7

Stormers v Bulls
The Bulls have been something of a surprise this season, but I’m still not ready to back them to win at Newlands. They’ve not had success there since 2011, and the Stormers have won all their home games so far this year. Stormers by 6

Sharks v Highlanders
The Sharks’ capitulation at home to the Bulls is making me think the Highlanders will win this. The New Zealanders have won their last two away from home, and with a win at altitude under their belt last week, they’ll be more comfortable in this one at sea level. Highlanders by 9

    1. Agreed – its a coin toss, but home advantage could be the difference; I’m going Tahs with a 2pt margin.

Just hope Nick Phipps doesn’t p*** it all away for them šŸ˜‰

  1. Friday Picks appear easy picks. The Hurricanes battled to put the Sharks away and scored a late try ,well in overtime to beat the Sharks 38-37.If the Lions forwards can put in a solid forward performance, they might just surprise the Canes.
    Home advantage favours Canes.
I pick the Waratahs to put the the Blues away .
Bulls/Stormers 50/50 ,slight home advantage to Stormers, but I think it is going to be close and if the Bulls can repeat their dominant forward play, they might just put the Stormers away.

Highlanders were completely dominated by Bulls pack. The Sharks pack is capable of the same and unless they fall apart, the Highlanders
wont have an easy payday. Highlanders by 3.

  2. Chiefs, Crusaders and Canes should all win by 15+.

I see the Tahs edging the Blues by one score.

The Highlanders should have to much for the Sharks and should win by about 10.

I don’t understand the compulsion to back the Stormers. They are better at home, but have not produced any real quality performances. The Bulls win win this if they pitch up, if they pitch like they did last week, they will win by plenty.
