Tom Rees to captain Wasps

London Wasps Director of Rugby, Tony Hanks has revealed the new club captain in the shape of 24 year old Tom Rees.

Tom Rees

Rees has fifteen caps for England and is backed by coach Shaun Edwards who said he is an ‘authoritative’ player who has the respect of his team mates. In reflecting on captains past, Rees was prepared to admit that he is daunted to be following in the footsteps of Ibanez and Dallaglio.

The Wasps top three were in bullish mood as they launched their season today, with Edwards stating several times that after his summer in South Africa his resolve at the club is not in question. “I am more determined than ever.” When asked why he replied, “As I get older, I get grumpier.”

London Wasps start the season on September 5th at the London Double Header against Harlequins at Twickenham. To hear vice-captain Phil Vickery’s reaction to this announcement, tune in to The Rugby Blog Podcast on Friday 28th August.
