Video: Last time England played Ireland at Twickenham

Excitement is really building for this weekend’s match between England and Ireland at Twickenham, and I’ve had a search through the archives (on YouTube) for some footage from 2008.

The commentary is in French, so sound isn’t essential, but I found this interesting to watch. It was Danny Cipriani’s first start at fly-half for England, but what struck me was the number of different faces who are now nowhere near the team: Richard Wigglesworth, Lesley Vainikolo, Jamie Noon (although he is closer than we thought) and Matt Stevens to name a few. Also, keep an eye out for Tom Croft hanging out on the wing for England’s first try.

  1. Great memories. some interesting points to note. Firstly on that performance Noon deserves to be at least on the bench. Secondly shows what you can do with a dominant pack and quick ball. Finally look at our offloading it’s brilliant and keeps things alive rather than getting drawn into ruck after ruck. If we play like that on sat we’ll be laughing! That’s one mighty if though!

  2. It’s a shame England fail to use Tom Croft like Tigers and the Lions do – as more of a back that packs down and wins line-out ball.
