Wales squad to take on the Barbarians

With the regular season done and dusted, we’re already looking ahead to the Rugby World Cup, and Warren Gatland has started the ball rolling by naming his squad to take on the Barbarians in a few weeks’ time.

The headline news is that Gavin Henson has made the cut, but Andy Powell has not. The two Welsh miscreants have been making headlines recently for all the wrong reasons, and I’m quite surprised to see The Orange One given another chance.

How much can be read into this we don’t know, but here is the squad to prepare for that Baabaas game:

Forwards:
P James (Ospreys), J Yapp (Cardiff Blues), R Bevington (Ospreys), S Andrews (Cardiff Blues), H Bennett (Ospreys), R Hibbard (Ospreys), L Burns (Newport Gwent Dragons), A-W Jones (Ospreys), R Jones (Ospreys), L Charteris (Newport Gwent Dragons), L Reed (Scarlets), D Lydiate (Newport Gwent Dragons), T Faletau (Newport Gwent Dragons), J Turnbull (Scarlets), S Warburton (Cardiff Blues, capt).

Backs:
M Stoddart (Scarlets), G North (Scarlets), A Brew (Newport Gwent Dragons), S Williams (Ospreys), J Davies (Scarlets), S Williams (Scarlets), G Henson (Toulon), S Jones (Scarlets), R Priestland (Scarlets), M Phillips (Ospreys), T Knoyle (Scarlets).

  1. Feel sorry for Powell when Henson gets selected. Singing a few songs is hardly a big enough offence to end his world cup dream is it. Henson would be more at home playing for the baa baas I think.
