22nd November 2003. Rugby fans the world over remember when, in the last minute of extra-time, Martin Johnson drove the ball forward to set up Jonny Wilkinson for that miraculous drop goal. Australian heads dropped as with 26 seconds left on the clock, the ball sailed between the uprights.
Ten years later and the Australians are out for revenge. To mark the 10 year anniversary of the fixture and ahead of the first of the QBE Internationals when England take on Australia at Twickenham, an England v Australia legends game will see some of the stars of the 2003 Rugby World Cup finalists run out at the Twickenham Stoop on Thursday 31st October (KO 7.45pm).
And we’ve teamed up with the kind people at Canterbury, who are kitting out both of the legends’ sides, to offer you the chance to win tickets to the game.
The England Legends team will include the likes of Jason Leonard, Martin Corry, Lewis Moody, Jason Robinson, Josh Lewsey, Mike Tindall, Phil Vickery, Ben Kay, Andy Gomarsall and Austin Healey, while they will take on a formidable Australian outfit that includes Stirling Mortlock, Al Baxter, Chris Whitaker and Richard Harry.
