Let’s be honest it doesn’t get much better than this does it? Exciting Rugby, a party atmosphere in the British summertime, all this and you’ll be able to bask in the warm glow of knowing that you are raising money for two incredible charities: Wooden Spoon and the RFU’s Injured Players Fund!
Ok we can’t guarantee the weather but we can guarantee an amazing day out for all the family, to watch some first class rugby, with teams including defending champions, Samurai and international sides including Wales, England’s ‘Help for Heroes’ and Brazil, who will host the first Olympic Rugby tournament in Rio 2016.
The origin of Wooden Spoon was a happy accident in the wake of an England rugby defeat in 1983. A group of friends who travelled to the Five Nations match against Ireland were awarded the wooden spoon by rival supporters to commemorate England’s dismal performance! The friends resolved to have a charity golf match to see who would have the honour of keeping the auspicious spoon and the idea of the charity was born. Over the last 27 years it has gone on to provide more than £16 million pounds of charitable support, benefiting over half a million young people, thanks to the efforts of staff and volunteers.
Wooden Spoon is proud of its legacy and the work it does. The charity believes that all children and young people deserve a chance to live happy fulfilled lives regardless of the challenges they may face. Harnessing the spirit and values of rugby, Spoon gives disadvantaged children and young people in the UK and Ireland a chance to achieve their full potential in life.
