  1. Unless Ed is engaging in more double speak ,I understand Manu is pencilled in for a start.
I’m guessing : Daly, May, Ashton, Manu, Slade, Sinckler,Hartley, Moon,Underhill, Hughes, Wilson, Lawes, Itoje, Youngs Faz.
Dropping Mercer seems harsh but I truly think it is to early in his career for both he and Hill to be involved in a pre World cup season.
I fear for Daly, his confidence could be shot by the end of the autumn and I would have released Hepburn and called up either Catt or Barrington. Very peed off that Morgan has been ignored again too.

    1. Now I am one eyed when it comes to Glaws players, but really, on what basis is Nathan Hughes better than Morgan. BM has had a bigger impact when playing for England and is currently playing better than NH at premiership level.

Don’t get me wrong in that I think NH is a very good club player and is OK for England, but I can’t remember him being any better than OK for England.

Just don’t understand EJ and his aversion to picking Gloucester players. However, good news for NH and good luck to him. I hope he proves me wrong against the Aussies, but can’t agree with the point you made.

      1. I’m not a Glaws fan and I completely agree with you. As you say, Hughes is ok but Morgan had some real impact in the white rose shirt and he should be getting the opportunity to wear it again. I think there may be a wasp in the room!

        1. Have to agree on comments supporting Morgan v Hughes. If Hughes plays on Saturday I think he needs a big game, as it does appear that Jones’ knife has been sharpened.

      1. This! My main memory of Hughes is him getting constantly held up against Ireland because he carries so upright. I don’t rate Hughes at all.

  2. it feels a real shame that Anthony Watson has been injured for quite awhile, as Daly has yet to convince in my opinion at fullback, while Anthony plays there for club and did for the lions without (from my maybe rose tinted memories) having any howlers. It is clear EJ doesnt seen Brown having a spot for WC and no time for goode so is persisting with Daly, but i wonder if Watson was fit would we have seen Daly at 13 instead of Nowell and Watson at fullback? guess we will never know.
As i said in another post i feel the Nowell at 13 experiment (that turned into a dud with Ashton off injured) was more trying to find a spot for Nowell, with May, Daly, Ashton, Watson, and now perhaps cokanasiga i think for all his talents Nowell is the odd man out – although if the forecast was wet and windy would probably have Nowell!
Dropping Care seems an interesting decision, at least with Care finishing he brings something very different from Youngs, while Wiggles i feel is a similar player to Youngs but without the sniping speed and more accurate box kicking, definitely dont think he will change the game by coming on so feel realistically better if he starts? maybe EJ is thinking the saracens 9-10 axis could do a job (especially when BV back fit the 8-10 axis could be quite destructive?)
Mercer not surprise by dont think he is quite ready yet and would always be behind (@8) BV, Hughes and Wilson currently in my opinion.

    1. Don’t think that’s completely fair. Mercer wasn’t exactly great against Japan and Hughes would have always been selected in front of him had he been fit.
Thought he was treated worse after the SA game. His time will come though
As an aside, I really don’t think Hughes should have been selected. I cannot think of a single international game where he has been particularly effective. Happy to be proved wrong but he seems to me to be a good club player but not more than that

      1. Whereas Morgan has been excellent in the past! Really irritated by his continual exclusion. As for the whole scrum half situation! A barrage of expletives seems like a reasonable response! We have to blood a young scrum half!

      2. A little harsh on Mercer. Did not see the ball in the first ten minutes of the game despite putting himself in good positions. When George was yellow carded then off for a further 10 mins whilst Hartley was on as the replacement hooker. How can you judge a players potential on so little game time?

    2. Not sure that being dropped from the wider squad equates being treated like shit.

Only 23 get in the squad the the match day, and if the coach thinks the best 23 doesn’t include someone, then he gets omitted.

He didn’t impress against Japan, and to be honest that may have been the sort of game one would have expected to see him shine.

  3. Tough on Mercer. Hughes hasnt played in 5/6 weeks so I cannot see how he can be in a position to start.
Good that Care has been dropped fora bright, up and coming SH…..oh, its Wiggy.
The never ending “will Manu be fit to play some part in the matchday squad” continues.
Otherwise its pretty much business as usual. Dont expect the starting XV to be much different to the one that played NZ. Lawes will start and there might be a spot for Cokanasiga (he says more in hope than genuine expectation)

    1. I thought Care was quite poor on Saturday, so its reassuring that he is dropped as it shows that Jones is not as intransigent as sometimes appears.

Wigglesworth’s age doesn’t matter as (rightly or wrongly) all roads only lead as far as the World Cup.

  4. according to the bbc and the telegraph word coming out of the camp is that Ashton is out for saturday and likely so is Manu. i wonder why Manu has been included in the ‘squad’ for every test so far this series, if he was injured after the first one to a level it has rules him out for 3 weeks? Seems very odd and that position could have gone to another centre – with less of an injury prone past – to develop as an apprentice or more for future.
Or alternatively this is a tactical masterclass in subterfuge from Jones and Manu has been training all along and is the bolt on 1st team starter at 12 come the world cup but EJ is playing his card close to his chest and wont reveal this ‘knock out punch’ until the World cup warm up’s at the earliest!!! (if you didnt read all that with your tongue firmly applied to your cheek go back and do so again!)

    1. IF Manu is injured again, it really begs the question can we keep living in hope rather than expectation?
if he does a no show on saturday, then sadly, I think it may be time to look elsewhere for a weighty centre for the 6n and the W Cup. It’s sad because he is a true one off but how much rope do you give a player with his injury record?

  5. Cany help think that brown travels to Japan and Jones is try to build depth at 15 as his first choice WATSON is out so many others if fit the 2 vinnies go luanchbury Cole manu and watson. Anybody else??,

  6. They clearly want Tuilagi around the squad learning all the calls but it’s a risk, wouldn’t be surprised if they had no intention of playing him this autumn at all but want him around squad preparing for 6 Ns. games. Not sure why Francis, would have stuck with Marchant personally.

    1. Just seems like a recipe for disappointment to me.
It smacks of desperation where there is none and slights other more reliable players. it’s one dimensional thinking too.
(waits for barrage of outrage from Tiger’s fans!)
