Rugby World Cup 2019: New Zealand Team To Play England

Steve Hansen

Steve Hansen has named the All Blacks team to play England this weekend, with Scott Barrett selected in the back row.

It’s unusual to see Barrett in the back row – Hansen seems to want to target the England lineout.

  1. The biggest team they could possibly pick!
Barrett at 6 means they’re targeting the line out, they’ve got 4 jumpers, (maybe 5, does Savea jump?)
I’m not sure what facet England might have supremacy in. Breakdown perhaps? Pack pace? But then the likes of Dane coles is brought on!
I’m not confident but at least it’s building to be a huge entertaining match!

  2. If one picked a joint team from NZ and England, how many English players in it? Imo we are significantly weaker in three crucial areas. Scrum half, where Youngs has nothing like the speed and accuracy of service of Smith, Full back, where Barrett has all Dalys skills and none of his flaws, and perhaps surprisingly, number 8, where Reid is in awesome form and BV is still not completely back to his best. NZ by 16 points.

    1. On one of the other posts someone pointed out B Barrett’s missed tackles – maybe a shared frailty with Daly if he can be pressured? He’s not the biggest guy.

        1. Similar size to Daly, or Israel Dagg who’s talked about not enjoying Manu running at him. None of them would relish spending all game being challenged under the high ball by Watson and May (and Underhill) either.
